St. George’s TTI is situated 400 meters away from Vazhakulam Town. It is in the 5th ward of Avoly Panchayathu in Muvattupuzha Taluk. As per historical documents this school, then named as St.George Primary School, was started in 1897 in the compound of St.George’s Forane Church. At that time this institution was the only source of education for thousands of people living in and around Vazhakulam. In the year 1917 this school became an Aided Primary School and the manager was Rev.Fr. Geevarghese Nambiaparambil. In 1923 it was upgraded as ’Malayalam Middle School’ and the course was known VSLC(Vernacular School Leaving Certificate). The first VSLC Examination was conducted in 1927. In due course of time the infrastructure of this school had undergone several changes. In 1936 a new building was constructed for the school which was upgraded as Teacher Training school. Then the U P School became the model (Lab) school of the training school. During that period St. George’s Training School was one among the few training Schools in Kerala. In 1983 the school was again upgraded as ‘Malayalam Higher (M.H.). In 1943 the Travancore Govt. abolished the VSLC and M. H. course. Due to the subsequent Govts’ educational reforms the school became a ‘Boy’s Middle School’ and then a ‘Mixed U,P. School’. When the curriculum was again revised in 1958 this school got the name St. George’s Basic Training School. The T.T.C. curriculum was again revised in 1989 and the school was renamed as St.George’s Teacher Training Institute.
